# Individual Lookup

Repair one company name and get it back directly. Synchronous and free.

<mark style="color:green;">`POST`</mark> `/normalize_company_names`

{% hint style="info" %}
**Free.** No provider call, no model call, so nothing is charged and nothing is stored.
{% endhint %}

`company_description` is worth sending when you have it. A company's real spelling is usually already written in its own description, and matching against it is what turns `Planetbids` into `PlanetBids` without a model — it also keeps `Opmed.ai` from losing its suffix. `company_keywords` and `company_website` serve the same purpose. All three are read-only.

**What it repairs**

| Input                                   | Output                 | Why                           |
| --------------------------------------- | ---------------------- | ----------------------------- |
| `Causal Inc All Rights Reserved`        | Causal                 | Leftover website text         |

| `Planetbids` + description              | PlanetBids             | Spelling from the description |

**What it leaves alone**

| Input              | Output           | Why                                       |
| ------------------ | ---------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| `Cooper Companies` | Cooper Companies | The plural is part of the name |
| `Corp`             | Corp             | As a whole name it is the brand           |
| `Bene : Studio`    | Bene : Studio    | A spaced colon is branding, not a tagline |
| `Re:Amaze`         | Re:Amaze         | The colon is inside the name              |

Any rule chain that removes more than 60% of the name keeps the original instead. Anything it cannot resolve comes back unchanged, with the reason in `reasons`.

**Response**

| Field               | Type   | Description                                                        |
| ------------------- | ------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `organization_name` | string | The repaired name, or the original when no rule applied. |
| `reasons` | array | One short line per rule that fired, or the reason nothing changed. |

The record is under `data`. See [Response Format](/getting-started/response-format.md) for the fields every endpoint returns.

To repair a whole list, use [List Lookup](/enrichments/normalize-company-names/list-lookup.md).
